<p>In recent years, citizen science and participatory research have emerged as powerful tools for bridging the gap between academic inquiry and public engagement, particularly within the humanities. Traditionally perceived as domains reserved for scholars and experts, the humanities are increasingly embracing collaborative methodologies that value the knowledge, perspectives, and contributions of non-professional participants. This paper presents a comprehensive review of citizen science and participatory research in the humanities, examining how these approaches redefine the relationship between researchers and the public. By highlighting historical foundations and contemporary shifts, it explores how public involvement can enrich research on culture, history, literature, heritage, and social identity. The study draws attention to the theoretical frameworks that inform participatory approaches, such as co-production of knowledge, epistemic justice, and inclusive research ethics. It also examines the tools and digital platforms that enable wide-scale collaboration, from crowdsourced transcription and annotation projects to open archives and interactive storytelling platforms. Moreover, this review discusses the practical and institutional models that support participatory research, including museums, libraries, community archives, and online humanities labs. Through illustrative case studies, the paper showcases successful examples of citizen engagement, including heritage mapping, oral history projects, and collaborative curation efforts. While acknowledging the immense potential of participatory methods, it also critically reflects on challenges such as data reliability, representation, consent, and the digital divide. Ethical considerations and questions of authority and recognition remain central to evaluating these models of engagement. In conclusion, this review argues that citizen science and participatory research offer the humanities new pathways for social relevance, democratic knowledge production, and sustainable community partnerships. <p>Collaborative robots, or cobots, have emerged as a transformative technology in modern industrial settings, enabling safer and more flexible interactions between humans and machines. Unlike traditional industrial robots that operate in isolated zones, cobots are designed to work alongside human workers, combining the precision and efficiency of automation with the adaptability of human collaboration. This paper presents a comprehensive review of the core strategies that enable collaborative functionality in industrial robots, focusing on perception, control, and learning. Perception is a fundamental capability that allows cobots to understand and respond to their environments. Through sensors, computer vision, and sensor fusion, cobots can detect objects, recognize human presence, and adapt to dynamic changes on the factory floor. Effective perception is essential for ensuring safety, avoiding collisions, and maintaining task accuracy. Control strategies are equally vital for managing physical interactions in shared workspaces. Techniques such as impedance control, force control, and hybrid control schemes are used to regulate robot movement in real time. These methods ensure smooth cooperation, responsive behavior, and compliance with safety standards, especially during physical human-robot interaction. Learning strategies further enhancecobot adaptability by enabling them to improve performance over time. Machine learning approaches, including reinforcement learning, supervised learning, and imitation learning, are applied to teach cobots how to perform new tasks, adjust to variations in workflows, and respond to unforeseen scenarios. This review outlines recent developments in these three key domains and evaluates their integration in industrial applications. It also identifies current challenges and future research directions aimed at improving cobot intelligence, usability, and safety. <p>The accelerating pace of automation and artificial intelligence (AI) is profoundly transforming global labor markets, with far-reaching consequences for work, employment structures, and social inequality. This review critically examines the current state of research and emerging trends in 2025 concerning the intersection of technological change and socioeconomic disparities. As automation continues to displace routine and manual labor, new forms of employment particularly in the gig and platform economies are proliferating. However, these shifts often exacerbate job insecurity and reduce access to stable, well-paying positions. The resulting skill-based job polarization has disproportionately impacted low-income, marginalized, and geographically isolated communities, who face structural barriers to upskilling and digital inclusion. The review explores how the uneven distribution of the economic benefits of automation is contributing to widening wage gaps and deepening structural inequalities across lines of class, gender, race, and region. Technological innovation, while promising increased productivity and efficiency, often concentrates rewards among highly skilled workers and tech capital holders, leaving vulnerable populations at greater risk of exclusion. In response, various policy interventions have been proposed and implemented with mixed results. These include government- and industry-led reskilling and upskilling programs<strong>, </strong>universal basic income (UBI) trials, and efforts to regulate platform labor to secure fair wages and protections. The review evaluates these strategies through a critical lens, emphasizing the need for inclusive frameworks that prioritize equity and participation in technological governance. Emerging research calls for a human-centered and intersectional approach to automation one that balances innovation with social justice. The paper argues for robust, forward-looking social safety nets, collaborative policymaking, and ethical AI development to ensure that the benefits of automation are shared broadly. <p>The digital revolution has significantly reshaped the humanities, offering scholars new methodologies, tools, and paradigms for exploring human culture, history, language, and expression. As computing technologies have become increasingly sophisticated and accessible, their integration into the humanities has led to the emergence of what is now commonly referred to as the <em>digital humanities </em>an interdisciplinary field that leverages computational methods to support traditional humanistic inquiry while also enabling entirely new forms of analysis. This review explores the transformative role of computing in the humanities by examining its historical emergence, evolving digital tools, computational methods, and the shifting nature of research practices. The early adoption of computing in the humanities dates back to mid-20th-century efforts such as concordance-building and textual indexing, but the widespread digitization of archives and the proliferation of the internet in the late 1990s and 2000s catalyzed a broader digital turn. Today, humanities scholars employ techniques such as text mining, topic modeling, network analysis, and image recognition to analyze large corpora of texts, artworks, and multimedia materials at scales previously unimaginable. Tools like GIS (Geographic Information Systems), Optical Character Recognition (OCR), and Natural Language Processing (NLP) have opened new avenues for spatial analysis, historical mapping, and semantic exploration. In parallel, the rise of digital humanities centers, research consortia, and open-access platforms has fostered interdisciplinary collaboration between computer scientists, librarians, historians, linguists, and artists. These partnerships have facilitated the development of interactive digital archives, virtual exhibitions, and algorithmically enhanced critical editions of texts. Importantly, computing has not only enhanced the preservation and accessibility of cultural heritage but has also prompted critical reflection on the epistemological and ethical dimensions of digital methodologies. The transition from analog to digital systems has dramatically increased productivity and efficiency across sectors, enabling automation, real-time data processing, and expansive global collaboration. Economically, the digital revolution has facilitated the rise of new industries and business models, from e-commerce to the gig economy, while also altering traditional labor markets through automation and platformization. In education, digital tools have expanded access to learning, enabling remote and personalized education through e-learning platforms. Healthcare has seen significant advances, with digital technologies supporting telemedicine, electronic health records, and AI-driven diagnostics, enhancing both accessibility and quality of care. In governance, digital systems have enabled e-governance initiatives, promoting transparency, public participation, and streamlined service delivery. Meanwhile, cultural life has been transformed by digital media, which has revolutionized how people create, consume, and share information and art. However, the digital revolution also poses critical challenges. Digital inequality persists, with significant disparities in access to internet and digital literacy. The spread of misinformation, data privacy violations, algorithmic bias, and the rise of surveillance technologies threaten individual rights and democratic institutions. Moreover, the environmental footprint of digital infrastructure, including energy-intensive data centers and e-waste, raises concerns about sustainability.
